First opened in 1970, Kurow Museum – also known as New Zealand’s National Museum of Social Security – has attracted visitors both domestically and internationally.

Our displays include Waitaki life since the arrival of Waitaha people, arrival of Europeans, the construction of Waitaki, Aviemore and Benmore Dams and the development of agriculture in both the Waitaki and Hakataramea Valleys. Through photographs, written stories and visual displays, our stories reflect us all.

Don't miss the chance to discover the intriguing history of this part of the Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail.

Entry is free though our tiger would love a donation.

Mon - Fri 10am to 4pm
