We are a very scenic 140km drive through Dunedin to / from Oamaru. Moeraki fishing village, lighthouse and seal colony, and the Moeraki Boulders are there to be discovered on route. Macraes Gold Mine (New Zealand's largest) is a short diversion inland from Palmerston.
If you can allow yourselves some additional time, take in one or both of the amazing scenic routes:- 1. Via Port Chalmers to Waitati (with the option of a stop in at the Orokonui Ecosanctuary), or 2. Via the Coast Road and Karitane.
Whichever route you choose, the scenery and local history is sure to delight and enthral.
Directions from nearest town
Dunedin Airport is 30km south of Dunedin city. It is well signposted.
Drive south on State Highway 1 until the turn-off (right) at State Highway 86, Allanton. Follow the signs, bearing right at Momona Garage. Allow 30 minutes from city to airport.
