Oamaru is the proud home of the Star & Garter restaurant and cafe, one of New Zealand’s oldest restaurants, serving continuously for 100 years! The Star & Garter is open seven days a week, from 11am until late, including public holidays (no surcharge on those days!).

The menu of the Star & Garter is full of traditional Kiwi delights, from excellent fish and chips, to lamb’s fry, to soups and salads, and everything in between. Highlights are the famous seafood chowder and fresh blue cod. The Star & Garter also offer vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options.

Conveniently located close to the finish point of the Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail, the Star & Garter is a perfect place to celebrate the completion of your A2O adventure.

There is a courtyard available, NZ wines, great coffee, and so much more. The welcome from Lisa and her team is always friendly and welcoming, so pop on in!

The Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail is a grade 2-3 (easy to intermediate) cycle trail. There are a variety of trail surfaces. Riders are advised to take certain essentials with them (e.g. first aid, repair kit, water, food). Parts of the trail pass through alpine environments, where conditions can change.

Located in the South Island of New Zealand, halfway between Christchurch and Queenstown, is the Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail. It is recommended that you start your ride from Aoraki/Mt Cook - though there are numerous access points along the trail from which to start or end your ride.
