Getting Here

Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail is located in the South Island, halfway between Christchurch and Queenstown.

It is recommended that you begin your ride from the starting point at the White Horse Campgound 2km from the Aoraki/Mt Cook Village in the heart of the National Park, as this is surely the icon of the Cycle Trail, however you will require a helicopter lift from the Mt Cook airport over the Tasman River to continue your journey (at your cost).  For many the helicopter flight is one highlight of many for the Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail but if this is not for you then you could consider starting at the Jollie Carpark or take the Alternative Route starting at Tekapo.

These are all just suggestions and you can start and finish your journey at any point that is convenient to you and your party - picking off a section or two at a time or cycle 'there and back'.  It is amazing how different the magniificent scenery looks when you are seeing it from the other direction.

There is an airport at Mount Cook, but Air NZ may not have scheduled flights there this 2021-2022 season.

The nearest airports serviced by scheduled flights are located in Christchurch, Queenstown, Dunedin and Timaru.

Please check with Air NZ regarding their flights being able to take bikes, as this may not be possible on their smaller aircraft.

Daily bus services operate to Twizel from Christchurch and Queenstown, with a local shuttle service operating between Tekapo, Twizel and Aoraki/Mt Cook.

Dependant on numbers, some Alps 2 Ocean transport providers and tour operators may offer an airport transfer service - please contact them directly with your enquiry - a list of operators can be found here... PLAN YOUR RIDE
